Halston to have a new owner?
Sarah Jessica Parker’s favourite label Halston may be gearing up for a new owner. SJP is president and chief creative officer and many of the designs will be familiar, if like me, you followed SATC religiously!
Roy Halston Frowick launched his womenswear label in 1968, taking full advantage of his celebrity and socialite connections, having previously been a milliner for Bergdorf Goodman. Renowned for its long flowing dresses and minimalist designs, Halston expanded to include menswear and perfume in 1975.
“It’s a very complicated structure and dynamic at the board level,” a source said, adding that Halston Heritage – overseen by Parker – “was definitely a viable business,” but that the company needs investment for growth, which the owners – Hilco Consumer Capital and Harvey Weinstein’s The Weinstein Co – aren’t keen to release at this time.
“There is a huge amount I don’t know and I am very candid about that, and I am excited to learn,” Sarah Jessica Parker said at the time of her appointment. “There are going to be things that come up that I am equipped to deal with and answer and respond to, and there are things that I will be happily mentored on. I have no allergy to learning.”
We’ll have to watch this space and see who comes in to take charge of Halston!
